Hi! I'm Cat. Mom of three, wife of one, lover of nature, art, music, food, people and of course, photography. As it does to so many of us, parenthood has often made me wish for a “pause button” on life, and this has fueled my passion for photography. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to help others capture genuine moments, both big and small, through photos.
A photo session should be fun and relaxed. It should coax out natural expressions and interactions with one another. Fun comes through on film in a big way, and it lets the true YOU, your best you, come through as well. That's the most important ingredient in a successful shoot. While we all appreciate serene, made-for-the-mantel photos like these:
Moments like these are, in my opinion, just as important to grab onto:
These are the moments that spark memories. And really, isn't that what we want when we invest in photography? So expect your session to be relaxed, playful, and try to come into our time in a mindset of fun.
Where to shoot? Anyplace can make for a great session that will tell your story, even your favorite ice cream parlor. I'm a fan of anywhere that has special meaning for your family and the stage of life you're in right now, whether that be your home, a well-loved park or natural area, or walking around your neighborhood. If you are stumped, I'm happy to help you decide.
What to wear? Families: Dressing to look like yourselves is the name of the game, with an eye on subtle coordination. In a nutshell, one to two neutrals with two to three colors pulled in works well. Don't be afraid of pattern either: patterns will lend your images an air of whimsy. An internet search is a great place to start. You'll be amazed at the inspiration you'll find if you search “family photo attire” (Hello, Pinterest!)
Professionals: Choose attire that conveys how you'll dress for your dream job

A full session is a great choice for fans of candid photography, and families with young kids. An hour affords us time to capture kids engaged in their surroundings, as well as time for kids to warm up and get more comfortable in front of the camera. This session allows for greater variety of groupings and individual family members.
Minimum of 30 images
3 hour session in your home with a pre-shoot collaboration/consultation session (in person, via telephone or e-mail, your choice). My approach with these sessions is to feature baby as the star of the show of course, but also to create a picture of what life around the house is like in these first days, since your sleep-deprived brain may not remember! It is recommended you schedule well ahead of time, and choose a date that will fall within the first two weeks after birth for maximum cooperation from baby.
